Our design simultaneously regulates and stimulates the relationship between the expressive and quotidian facets of the artist’s life. Inspired by the textures of her childhood home of Brazil, the building is executed in a simple, solid cinder block arranged in subtly shifting patterns, resulting in a playful and robust façade expression. Long slit windows allow daylight to permeate the street-facing side while maintaining privacy along the urban thoroughfare. A south-facing roof terrace, anchored by an oversized communal table at its center, allows daylight into the studio below.

On the interior, original floor surfaces are left as they are, composing a tapestry of textures alongside newer finishings. New structural bracings are intentionally framed diagonally and painted in a viridian green, breaking from the rectilinear and repetitive order of the everyday.
